Drawing in Progress: Boktai (Update)

Slowly but surely my Doom cover-style Boktai drawing is coming along. I’ve added more shading, based on a weak light-source in the top-right of the image. I’ve repainted the hair to look more natural and I’ve redone some of the line art. I’ve also changed the lettering to the Doom font, through a little plugin I found here.

Next: I will add shading based on a fill light (possibly located in the middle-left of the image), shading based on a rim light (located behind Django) and I will of course add colour and texture to the “Boktai” text, similar to the Doom cover, and make the letters 3-dimensional.

Drawing in Progress: Boktai

A little while ago I looked through my old GBA games and started playing Boktai: Solar Boy Django again. For those who don’t know the game (I’m not actually sure how well-known it was!) it’s a stealth-action game where you use the power of the sun against the undead. The cool thing about the game however, is that the game cartridge has a solar cell on it that measured the intensity of the sun, which directly affects an energy bar in-game. The sun is basically your ammunition, getting players to play games outside!

I drew this for my one year anniversary with my girlfriend Olivia. She’s amazing. ;)

The yellow umbrella is a reference to a show we were both watching religiously at the time: How I Met Your Mother. Olivia is wearing a particular shirt and pair of pants she owns in real life and the same with myself.
